Savin Rock
03:04
|
|||
Saw her at the beach
Strolling by herself on the shore
Softer than a peach
Sudden as a knock at the door
I could feel my heart
Tearing down the boardwalk in flames
Like a runaway horse
With no one there to grab at the reins
Say you want a kiss to turn your lights on
Let the stranger come and give you a ride
Down at Savin Rock
Sweeping me away with the tide
Candy-red Camaro
Stopping just to let her walk by
The whole embarcadero
Crazy for a look in her eyes
Slipping on her Ray-Bans
Ninety-nine degrees in the shade
I'm trying to steal a glance
Feeling like a cheap lemonade
Say it isn't my imagination
Something special you've been saving for me
Down at Savin Rock
Cut it loose and let it run free
Down at Savin Rock
Cut it loose and let it run free

We're Only in Love
04:37
|
|||
You and I
Gazing across the sky
Searching for a rainbow
While the world is passing is by
Leaves on the ground
Fallen without a sound
There’s no use in pretending
That what’s lost can ever be found
Maybe it’s the time of year
That finds us here
Alone in our thoughts, but I
Think of you and hide a tear
As it all slips away, I hear you say
We’re only in love
And it won’t be enough
We’re only in love
But we can find love again
You and I
We’re staring to face the lie
The rainbow’s just an illusion
Nothing more than a trick of the eye
So we abide
And keep the disappointment inside
The pot of gold may elude us
But I’m glad we went along for the ride
We may pass this way again
We’ll talk a while
And leave with a smile, and I
Wish we could remain as friends
But it’s all over now, and anyhow
We’re only in love
And it won’t be enough
We’re only in love
But we can find love again

Ocean Eyes
03:18
|
|||
Snow-gray skies
Waiting by the window
I rise — wonder where the days go
Wintertime is here, watch another year
Fade and die
Save the last goodbye
For me
Looking out the front door
Can’t see over to the far shore
Taken from the world
Precious as a pearl
Ocean eyes
Smile like summer skies
Now I sit alone
Lost among the stones
Cold inside
Drifting with the tide
I didn’t know another way
And I had so much left to say
In candlelight I heard her call
But there was no one there at all —
Snow-gray skies
Waiting by the window
I rise — wonder where the days go
All the time and tears
Built up through the years
Flowing wild, lovers reconciled
Wintertime is here, watch another year
Fade and die
Save the last farewell for me
Yours eternally —

Welcome to the Basement
03:49
|
|||
Welcome to the basement
I play the fly on the wall
It’s insulated
The sound won’t carry out at all
Why don’t you notice
None of your friends could hear you call
Were you to call
Skip the introduction
You’ll know me well soon enough
You play the victim
But I am made of stronger stuff
I play the stranger
Who gets his thrills from playing rough
‘Cause I’m big and tough
So tell me why don’t you know
When there’s something’s wrong
Oh baby why don’t you go
You been down too long
So tell me why don’t you know
When there’s something wrong
Welcome to the back room
It’s where the real work begins
Vinegar and Lysol
Cover up a multitude of sins
Fear and repulsion
Keep you on needles and pins
Needles and pins
So tell me why don’t you know
When there’s something’s wrong
Oh baby why don’t you go
You been down too long
So tell me why don’t you know
When there’s something wrong
Welcome to my nightmare
Somehow you got me on the run
You tricky vixen
You didn’t tell me about the gun
Now I’m the victim
And all my plans have come undone
Nowhere to run
So tell me why don’t you know
When there’s something’s wrong
Oh baby why don’t you go
I been down too long
So tell me why don’t you know
When there’s something wrong

Old Men of April
02:20
|
|||
Old times are running out
Children’s children run about
Old men of April
Wonder where their time has gone
Seasons begin again
Seeds will scatter with the wind
Old men of April wonder
When the days will end
So where do we stand
Is it out of our hands
Think about the time to come
Don’t regret what you left behind
Take a stand, run a flag up, start another journey of a thousand miles
Old men of April sailing under winter skies
And when we touch land
We will all understand
Live another life to come
Don’t regret what you left behind
You are not alone
Choose a path and see what you find
In the time to come
There’s no other rule but “be kind”

Buffalo Joe
03:50
|
|||
Buffalo Joe was the pride of the town
He had a Chevy air filter that he wore
as a crown
He had one extra pinky and a pet baboon
And he’d been to the moon
(Or so he told me)
Buffalo Joe was a natural man
He ate cold beanie-weenies
straight out of the can
He drank his soda from a bottle
like a real buckaroo
And he could play the kazoo
Buffalo Joe, where did you go
Hey bud, we miss you like you
don’t even know
You said goodbye on the fifth of September
And now it’s getting toward the end of December
And all the people in the town I know
They’re asking where the hell is Buffalo Joe
Buffalo Joe had a ways to go
He walked 52 miles in the ice and snow
He was cold, he was lonely,
he was missing a toe
And he was moving slow
Well, we found him next April,
he was stiff as a board
On the top of a mountain,
face-up to the Lord
We brought him down into town and we buried his bones
Under a big marble stone
Buffalo Joe, why did you go
What you were thinking,
there’s no one can know
You said goodbye at the coming of autumn
A-chasing dreams and we hope that you caught ‘em
Now every winter we come in from the snow
And we drink a toast to Buffalo Joe
Yeah, we drink a toast to Buffalo Joe
Goodbye to Buffalo Joe

Driving Rain
04:33
|
|||
There’s a double yellow line
That stands between your heart and mine tonight
As I head for the flight
The sounds of words I should have said
Will form an echo in my head for days
Although we’ve parted ways
I’ve packed up all my sorrow
And I’m looking for a way out of the pain
In the driving rain
And all that I am now
I’m carrying aboard this plane
The businessman was broad of beam
And moved as though ordained by Mother Fate
Heading for the gate
I stood and watched him as he passed
He towed the baggage he’d amassed through years
Of grinding through the gears
Is that what I’m escaping?
A role that tried to shape my life in turn
’Til I crashed and burned?
There’s no point now, I guess
I have no lessons left to learn
And what does it feel like now?
And what does it feel like?

I Would Wait
03:03
|
|||
I would wait through an endless night
If I could wake up next to you
I would endure the pain of the world
If you would say you love me too
I keep returning to your dark eyes
Like some kind of dream that I can’t shake
Let me give you all the love I have
And live on the love we make
There’s danger in the air we breathe
The rising tide may claim us all
I can feel the world shift beneath my feet
And I wonder just how hard I’m going to fall
I didn’t think anything could creep into my life
Bring so much joy and so much pain
But if I’d seen you coming miles away
I’d fall for you just the same

I Found You
04:45
|
|||
I’ve been to some cold places
Looked into some faraway faces
Seen them go crazy in the wasteland
Quietly drowning in the quicksand
I’ve been to the ends of this earth
Seen this old world at its worst
I didn’t want to see anymore
Outside of my front door
Then I found you
And you made this lonely world
Admit to happiness and harmony
And you found me
And the endless night rolled back
And let a ray of sun come shining through
When I found you
When I’m shipwrecked by sorrow
And I don’t want to face tomorrow
Then you come softly to the bedside
And pull the covers from my tired eyes
I’ve been all around the world
Seen its fearsome sights unfurled
And you helped me to regain
My sense of wonder from the pain
When I found you
All the bright elusive summits
Seemed to bow down in front of me
You set me free
And the desert wasteland blossomed
With the radiance of life anew
When I found you
Home had seemed so far away,
so far away for me
The endless fall just half a step away
And hope that seemed like sunshine
after weeks of pouring rain
It came right through
Right through
When I found you
And you found me
And the endless night rolled back
And let a ray of sun come shining through
When I found you
